Handbell: one of many choir activites at St. Mary's

St. Mary's choirs in performances at home and abroad

The choirs of St. Mary's International School seek to nurture a love of music among their members, with a mission to promote community service and global awareness. Students have the opportunity to rehearse and perform the world's great classical choral works as well as light, popular works.

The 70–voice Grade 5 Choir participated in the Elementary Choral Festival at Christian Academy in Japan on May 6. The festival was honored to have guest conductor Joan Litman, who led the combined choirs in two songs.

The Middle School Choral Festival was held at Nishimachi International School, with both the Middle School Choir and the Grade 6 Choir participating. On May 15, the Grade 7 and 8 Middle School Choir travelled to Nagoya International School, where they participated in a mini choral festival with St. Maur and Nagoya International Schools.

The 80–voice St. Mary's Men's Choir is a non-auditioned group of students from grades 9 through 12. This past year, they participated in the Pacific Basin Music Festival where they received the highest ranking, along with the St. Mary's Varsity Ensemble.

The Varsity Ensemble is St. Mary's auditioned vocal group that has participated in ACDA conventions as well as numerous choral festivals. Because of the situation in Japan, their spring choir trip to perform at Loyola University in New Orleans and Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma was cancelled.

The International Show Choir is an auditioned mixed choir that performs classical as well as popular choreographed music. Students from Seisen International School and the International School of the Sacred Heart also participate in this 30–voiced ensemble.
